Professional writing bio
Chad Thomas Johnston is a self-proclaimed slayer of word dragons with seven years of digital-marketing-agency-based experience in crafting killer content and copy for banks, businesses, credit unions, dentists, legal offices, manufacturers, medical offices, schools, senior living facilities, and clients from other sectors.
Since he began freelancing in 2012, he has explored pop culture, tech, pets, and more in pieces for Parade, and written about national and state-based solar companies for U.S. News & World Report's "360 Reviews" vertical.
One of his personal essays, "To Be Born Again," was illustrated in graphic novel style for Atlanta-based In Touch Ministries by artist Jeff Gregory. Johnston also had the privilege of interviewing singer-songwriter Sam Phillips, who scored TV's Gilmore Girls, as a contributor to Image Journal's "Good Letters" blog on Patheos.com.
In 2013, eLectio Publishing released his memoir, Nightmarriage. This essay-driven, observational ode to the blunders and wonders of wedlock and parenthood is chockablock with absurd alliteration, appalling puns, and madcap metaphors—the sort of whimsical wordplay that brings Chad joy.
Johnston holds master's and bachelor's degrees in communication studies from Missouri State University and resides in Lawrence, Kansas, with his wife, daughter, and three feisty felines (see below). When he is fatigued from slaying entirely too many word dragons, Chad enjoys spending time with his family, dabbling in audio production, listening to records, and watching movies. 🐲🐲🐲

For the most part, the freeloading furballs below do not write, edit, or proofread Chad's content or copy. The one exception? They bat at dangling participles onscreen when Chad fails to recognize them. You know how cats are with dangly things! (Did Chad mention his unabashed love of dreadful dad jokes?)

From top to bottom, meet Vivian, Bowie, and Lola.

When my wife and I married in 2009, my two cats (Charlotte and Sophie) and I moved into her house to become a family with her three furballs (Othello, Amelie, and Oliver). The resulting feline Brady Bunch became my constant writing companions. They have all since gone to the Great Big Litter Box in the Sky, but they live on in our hearts.
